Free hypermodules: a categorical approach

Abstract

In category theory, the existence of free objects is very important, especially free modules that play an important role in homological algebra. Although algebraic hyperstructures are a natural extension of algebraic structures, due to the major difference between them, study-free objects in algebraic hyperstructures become very difficult. In this article, we provide a categorical approach for the construction of free hypermodules. In fact, by considering appropriate morphisms between hypermodules, we characterize free hypermodules from three different perspectives.     

Structure of relatively free dimonoids

Loday introduced the notion of a dimonoid and constructed the free dimonoid. The paper concerns the variety theory of dimonoids. We recall and summarize the results obtained by Loday, the author as well as others on the structure of some relatively free dimonoids. This part of the paper should be viewed as a survey, however we include some new ideas in the last sections. Namely, we construct a free (?z;rs)-dimonoid, a free (rs;rz)-dimonoid, a free rs-dimonoid, a free (rb;rs)-dimonoid, a free (rs;rb)-dimonoid and characterize the least (?z;rs)-congruence, the least (rs;rz)-congruence, the least rs-congruence, the least (rb;rs)-congruence and the least (rs;rb)-congruence on the free dimonoid. We also establish that the automorphism groups of constructed free algebras are isomorphic to the symmetric group and the semigroups of the free rs-dimonoid are anti-isomorphic.     

Functional Differential Equations With Delay and Random Effects

The authors study the existence of mild solutions to a functional differential equation with delay and random effects. They use a random fixed point theorem with a stochastic domain. An example is included to illustrate their results.     

Multi-adjoint algebras versus non-commutative residuated structures

Adjoint triples and pairs are basic operators used in several domains, since they increase the flexibility in the framework in which they are considered. This paper introduces multi-adjoint algebras and several properties; also, we will show that an adjoint triple and its “dual” cannot be considered in the same framework.Moreover, a comparison among general algebraic structures used in different frameworks, which reduce the considered mathematical requirements, such as the implicative extended-order algebras, implicative structures, the residuated algebras given by sup-preserving aggregations and the conjunctive algebras given by semi-uninorms and u-norms, is presented. This comparison shows that multi-adjoint algebras generalize these structures in domains which require residuated implications, such as in formal concept analysis, fuzzy rough sets, fuzzy relation equations and fuzzy logic.     

On Estimation of Temperature Uncertainty Using the Second Order Adjoint Problem

The uncertainty of temperature prediction from the heat flux error is estimated using first and second order adjoint equations. The adjoint codes developed for the inverse heat transfer problems provide the uncertainty estimation for the corresponding forward problems. Numerical tests corroborate the feasibility of fast uncertainty estimation using Hessian maximum eigenvalue obtained via second order adjoint equations.     

Universal conditions for algebraic travelling salesman problems to be efficiently solvable

We consider Travelling Salesman Problems (TSPs) where the cost of a tour is an algebraic composition of the cost coefficients that are elements of a totally ordered, commutative semigroup. Conditions for the cost matrix are stated which allow to solve these problems in polynomial time. In particular, we investigate conditions which guarantee that an optimal tour is pyramidal and can therefore be determined in O(n ²) time. Furthermore, we discuss TSP_s with Brownian as well as those with left-upper-triangular cost matrices.     

Boundary Behavior of Semigroups of Holomorphic Mappings on the Unit Ball in C n

We study the asymptotic behavior of semigroups generated by holomorphic mappings by using an infinitesimal version of the boundary Schwarz-Wolff Lemma. In particular, the best rate of exponential convergence is obtained. In addition, we establish a geometrical version of the implicit function theorem.     

On well-posedness of semilinear parabolic and elliptic problems in the hyperbolic space

We investigate existence and uniqueness of solutions to semilinear parabolic and elliptic equations in bounded domains of the n-dimensional hyperbolic space (n?3). Lp→Lq estimates for the semigroup generated by the Laplace-Beltrami operator are obtained and then used to prove existence and uniqueness results for parabolic problems. Moreover, under proper assumptions on the nonlinear function, we establish uniqueness of positive classical solutions and nonuniqueness of singular solutions of the elliptic problem; furthermore, for the corresponding semilinear parabolic problem, nonuniqueness of weak solutions is stated.     

Refractive index imaging from radiative transfer equation-based reconstruction algorithm: Fundamentals

We present the first reconstruction algorithm for refractive index imaging, which is based on the radiative transfer equation (RTE). An objective function is iteratively minimized to find a solution to the problem of inversion of the refractive index field. The function describes the discrepancies of the emerging light measurements on the surface of the sample to be probed with predicted data from the corresponding numerical model. The unknown refractive index field is updated within each reconstruction iteration according to a search direction on the index distribution given by the adjoint model to the RTE. In this paper, emphasis is placed on the theoretical aspects. Preliminary tests are demonstrated on generic phantoms.
